An electromagnetic flow meter measures volumetric flow from a conductive liquid moving through a magnetic field. No moving parts. No pressure drop. It needs a minimum conductivity of 5 µS/cm. Most water, wastewater, chemical dosing, dairy, beer and slurry lines meet this easily.

Line sizes start at DN2 for lab skids and go up to DN2000 for raw water mains. Liners include PTFE, PFA, hard rubber and ceramic. Electrode materials cover 316L, Hastelloy C, titanium and tantalum. Output options include 4-20 mA HART, pulse and RS485 Modbus.

Answer: No. Diesel is not conductive enough. Use an oval gear flow meter or a Coriolis mass flow meter for diesel and other hydrocarbons.
